One summer day in Florence

Florence is the capital of the region of Tuscany in Italy and is considered a cultural, artistic and architectural center.
It is truly an amazing place and a day is not enough, if one wants to feel the beat of  the city. But unfortunately, one very sunny summer day was all I had for visiting Florence...
Luckily for me, I had a personal guide in the city - my sister. She lived there for a while and knew how to present Florence in an interesting way, even with the limited time, that we had.
So we left our backpacks in the hotel and the walk started...

...the queue for Santa Maria del Fiore, also known as the Duomo di Firenze...

...there are many street musicians in Florence...

Palazzo Vecchio - the "Old Palace"

the Fontana del Nettuno in the Piazza della Signoria

The famous Ponte Vecchio (the old bridge)

 the Arno River

The Palazzo Pitti * Pitti Palace

We went on the other side of the Arno mainly to reach Piazzale Michelangelo. It is a square on a hilltop with a great view of the city...

After we spend the whole day walking in the streets of Florence and plenty of time, gazing at it from Piazzale Michelangelo, we became rather hungry...
Luckily for us - it was time for the Aperitivo :) This is very popular in Florence and some other Italian cities. The aperitivo includes pre-dinner drinks and snacks. Many bars provide delicious appetizers for those who buy a drink, normally a cocktail (7-9 Euro). The snacks were offered buffet style on the bar, though occasionally snacks were brought to our table. The deal is you can eat as much as you want, which is great if you are on a budget! And if it's one of the good aperitivo in town - it is a pretty good way to get a taste of Tuscany.

After the great meal and cocktails, there it was - Florence at night ...
